SAFE (Security) Team

Purpose (Scope of Ministry): To provide the church with a basic security plan to address potential threats from events such as: severe weather, fire, disruptive attendees, crime, or terrorism.  While trusting in the sovereignty of God, the SAFE Team recognizes its

responsibility to take reasonable steps to mitigate potential dangers, and to plan for orderly evacuations when necessary.

Basic Objectives: 

 The SAFE Team consists of church members trained and equipped to provide security during church events. The team is also available throughout these events to assist any person who needs assistance. This assistance may be directions, information, medical needs, or any other need.

 The church will annually recruit and train volunteers (SAFE Team), who will assess and recommend updated safety procedures.

  1. The SAFE Team will work with the Associate Pastor for Children and Families to ensure child evacuation and pick up procedures are planned and communicated.
  2. The SAFE Team will work to identify nurses and other members who are trained to operate the AED defibrillator.
  3. The SAFE Team will provide volunteers at large special events like Fall Festival and the Community Christmas Eve service.

Ministry Team Composition Requirements:

  • Church Membership: Yes
  • Chairman: Selected by nominating committee and elected by church body
  • Length of service: 1 year term
  • Main Staff Contact: Senior Pastor
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must be 21 or older
    • Complete SAFE Kids Training and successfully pass the appropriate background checks
    • Complete SAFE Team training and walk through with a current team member
    • Be physically able to perform necessary duties
    • Represent the church in a positive, Godly manner when handling or interacting with members and guests of the church
  • Preferred Requirements:
    • Have relevant experience and training (security, law enforcement, medical, etc.)

General Responsibilities:

  • The SAFE Team will consist of a minimum of two individuals during the Sunday morning services.
  • The SAFE Team will consist of a minimum of two individuals for special events including, but not limited to, Fall Festival, Easter and Christmas performances.
  • The SAFE Team will conduct all activities according to the procedures identified in the Procedures section.
  • The safety of all staff, members, and visitors is the team’s first priority. This includes SAFE team members.
  • The SAFE Team will make annual budget recommendations to the Finance Committee and manage expenses against approved budget.

Measurements of Effectiveness:

  • The church is prepared for a variety of contingencies.
  • The members and staff can worship free from concern of disruptions.
