Properties Committee (Standing)
Purpose (Scope of Ministry): To upkeep the church properties
Basic Objectives:
- To maintain the church properties in a clean, usable, safe condition
- To watch for ways to make our facilities more energy efficient
- To watch for ways to make our facilities more user friendly and up-to-date
Ministry Team Composition Requirements:
- Church Membership: Yes
- Chairman: Selected by Nominating Committee and elected by church body
- Length of service: 3 year term
- Main Staff Contact: Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Administration
- Other Requirements:
- Ideally team members will have experience in building maintenance, in grounds maintenance, and in property management or electric, plumbing, carpentry, and/or yard maintenance skills.
General Responsibilities:
- To make repairs to the church building and property as needed
- To ensure the building is ready for use for all regular and special services and when requested by committees
- To ensure major appliances are operable
- To contract with outside contractors when repairs are beyond the scope of the committee’s ability, time commitment, or workload
- To inspect the property and grounds periodically to see what needs attention and coordinate repairs and maintenance items as needed
- To make recommendations to the church concerning maintenance needs as appropriate
- To lead out in ways to involve church members in low profile maintenance projects such as cleaning storage rooms, spring cleaning, etc.
- To co-labor with the Personnel Committee on the job description and job performance of Properties Assistant
- To co-labor with the Pastor and church staff and the Board
- To make annual budget recommendations to the Finance Committee and manage expenses against approved budget (Budget should project maintenance needs at least 3 years into the future)
- To negotiate and maintain all service and maintenance contracts with outside contractors
- To develop and recommend policies and procedures related to church property for church operations manual
- To ensure facilities are locked, lights cut off, and all interior doors closed after regularly scheduled Sunday and Wednesday services
Measurements of Effectiveness:
- Our church building and grounds are in good repair, attractive and up-to-date.
- Maintenance projects do not linger.
- Visiting guests feel comfortable with the facilities.
- Our church buildings are clean.
