But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8 (ESV)
The missionary call is issued to all followers of Christ. It can be ignored but cannot be denied. The world around us is desperately lost and the importance of Christ’s command to “go and make disciples” (Matt. 28:19) pulsates with urgency as we daily move closer to His return. When will it be too late?
Kingdom of God work is missionary work. This was as true in the Old Testament times and in the New Testament. It was true during the spread of the early church and it holds true today. God continues to move His people to be on mission at home, in their neighbourhoods, cities and states, in their own countries and around the world.
It is not enough to say that Staples Mill Road Baptist Church is mission-minded or that we are committed to missions. Missions is who we are and what we desire to become. Everything that we do is done with an eye to its mission value. Evangelistic and expository preaching, Life groups and discipleship classes, Child Development Center, Student programs, community outreach events, domestic and international mission trips all lead our congregation to be on mission for the Kingdom of God.
Many in our membership have committed their vocational lives to missions. Currently, we have six family units from our congregation serving overseas as missionaries.
Many others in our fellowship have lived on foreign fields for different periods of time. Others are even now preparing to go.
Many have taken short term mission and humanitarian trips within the USA and abroad. Current areas of focus for future teams are India, Nepal, Peru and Europe.
We give generously to support missions and pray fervently for the lost of this world. SMRBC is consistently one of the top givers per capita to the International Mission Board or the SBC. We also have special offerings for North American and local missions.
Our Students send both domestic and international mission teams.
SMRBC supports church planting efforts and church planters in the Central Virginia area.
More information about our Loving the Homeless Ministry is available here. Members of our congregation are also involved in street evangelism in downtown Richmond, Refugee support, ESL ministry and many others.
